MOSCOW, Jan 10 (PRIME) -- Russia's flagship airline Aeroflot plans to restart flights to Kazakhstan's capital Nur-Sultan on Monday after suspension triggered by protests in the Asian country, the company said in a statement.
"Aeroflot will carry out flights SU1956/1957 Moscow–Nur-Sultan–Moscow, earlier scheduled for January 9… The flights will be carried out daily thereafter," the company said.
S7 cancelled flights on January 8 and 9, while Ural Airlines cancelled them on January 7.
The Russian Foreign Ministry registered 1,600 applications for evacuation of Russians, and three flights organized by the army were carried out from Almaty to the Chkalovsky airport.
The Kazakh national commerce chamber estimated the combined losses at U.S. $212 million by the morning of January 9. The losses of Russian companies were not estimated. Kazakhstan's ambassador to Russia Yermek Kosherbayev said that all foreign investment in the country will be protected.
Protests in Zhanaozen and Aktau against doubling of liquefied natural gas price started in the first days of January. On January 5, violent clashes with the police started in the largest city Almaty, the president declared emergency in whole country and dismissed the government.
